Immature Stages of Mecoptera

Detailed information on immature stages of Mecoptera is being acquired.  However, Clausen (1940) noted that the larvae are eurciform and are found on or in the soil in damp places.  Those of Panorpa feed on dead or dying insects, but rarely if ever on active living forms.  Bittacus is mostly predaceous on such insects and other small animals that are found in or on the moist soil.
